Beta
AmongFolk is in its early days, so you may spot the odd rough edge. Tell us if you do.
Delete your account
You can do this here, in any browser. You don’t need the app, and you don’t need to be signed in.
How it works
Tell us the email address your account uses.
We email a link to that address. Opening it is how we know the account is yours.
The link opens one more page with a single button. Nothing is deleted until you press it.
We say the same thing back whether or not that address has an account, so nobody can use this page to find out who is on AmongFolk.
What deleting removes
Your profile. Your name, email address, password, date of birth and the photo of you. The account can’t be signed into again.
Your place in every group. You’re removed from all of them, and the app signs out on every device.
Your birthday — wherever you’d shared the day and month with a group.
Your recent-activity records — the last-seen and daily-active rows we keep to show who’s around.
What stays, and why
What you shared stays with the group. Posts, replies, photos, video and voice notes you added stay where they are, shown as from “Deleted User”. They’re part of a shared memory other people are in too, so we don’t pull them out from under everyone. If you want them gone, delete them in the app first — you can remove any of your own posts and replies — or ask the group owner to.
Groups you set up stay. Their invitations and join codes are closed off so nobody new can walk in. If you want a whole group gone, delete the group in the app before you delete your account.
Our security log. We keep a record of account actions such as signing in, with the date and the IP address, so we can look into abuse and safety reports.
Backups, for up to 30 days. Deleted data can still sit in encrypted backups until those roll over.
Take your things with you first
If you want a copy, get it before you delete: in the app, open You → Account & privacy → Download my data. You’ll get your posts, photos and replies as a single file. Once the account is deleted we can’t make one for you.
Already in the app?
You can delete from there instead — You → Account & privacy → Delete account. It does exactly the same thing as this page.
Can’t get into that inbox?
Email privacy@amongfolk.com from any address you can reach. We’ll ask a question or two to be sure the account is yours, then do it for you.
